dance at the postoffice

GarageBand Files Available
– April 25, 2009

apple logoI had a few requests asking how I recorded the songs for Dance At The Postoffice. For most of the songs I use Apple’s Garageband (although a few tracks were done with Digital Performer). Anyway, I’ve decided to make all the GarageBand files publicly available. Just find the little Garageband icon and click to download: Garageband File

At the moment only Swim Where We Used To Dance and Saturday are on the site, but if there is a particular song you have in mind then you can request it. Feel free to remix or take samples from any of the tracks.

Such Great Heights

Life Before Death is Not a Ride

when should thoughts take precedence
over the feelings we must not admit
well there is a lesson for in what you surmise

Your mother came to me
A bride of 23
but as love ferments the sweetness dies

life before death is not a ride
no this is not our ride

when sang LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE
This is all I need
And she sang NOW NOW NOW NOW
so now I have to leave
she said it rotted out her spine
when they all scraped out her insides

and I don’t know what i want
but yes i know what i don’t want
and as love ferments the sweetness dies

as music cadences
oh so ends the suspense
sundays are better spent poolside

oh i am overqualified
yes i am overqualified

but on page 33
there was a note for me
as a final goodbye
you mustn’t acquiesce
he doesn’t know whats best

please let your feelings decide
even thought in your mind, your told it’s not right

Decorate A Car Crash

hey my love
it was winter in NYC for a while
So I put you in my pocket – to keep you dry
and to forgot about the world

ohhhhh at my most graceful of moments
i seem to survive
it’s like dressing up a car crash
it heals your eyes
as someone’s scattered up inside

you said
it’s summer
i love you
but your never home
if your words were poison
id still’ve eaten them whole

lately im making mistakes that i’ve already made
and the fictions i am fearing and flowing and finding me anyway
lately im making mistakes that i KNOW are mistakes
just cascading away

hey my dear
i left you with my phone as a room light
i left you without water for so many nights
you withered up and died

and INNNNN my mind
i promise i’ll be different – i dont know why
i promise I’ll be charming and more alive
then i forget about the world

A Certain Cure

I don’t need sleep until I’m awake
Can’t appreciate when I feel just fine, I’m fine OK
Like show at work and not working

Not today, not today
Thought you tried to see
And today, and today
You are not like me

But you don’t know what you’re missing
And he can’t see you – on your knees
Go circling, go play, go pray and surely you’ll be saved

And I don’t need to be held down today
I can hold up my own weight
I feel just fine, I’m fine, OK
Fast-through devotion
We’ll cut a deal and I’ll be healed
And end the commotion

These rooms they have no walls
These rooms they have no walls
Credits

Dave Strong: percussion

would i be happy?

the disappearance of disappearing
im always with you
swaying towards disruption
but i didn’t notice
no i didn’t care

so was i happy?

like little snippets
or a thousand promises (of love)
and a flood of futures
breaking open before us

if i made a movie
and swallowed the ocean

then would i be happy?

2. A Certain Cure
3. would i be happy?
4. We Made Our Own Money!
5. Saturday
6. Decorate A Car Crash
7. Life Before Death Is Not A Ride
8. Such Great Heights (cover, the postal service)

Whirlwind

Lyrics
and it’s not what it’s supposed to be
im afraid of almost everything

and it goes on and on, on and on

Credits
Chris Castiglione: guitar/vox
Nick Lombardi: guitar/bass
Caleb Vesey: Drum Kit
Dave Strong: percussion etc
Behvin Mc Donnell: cello, keyboard sounds

We Made Our Own Money!

we used to drink and dream so casually
in a little moon house we made our own money
and the world felt safer

we threw your mattress from the balcony
closed our eyes and lept out courageously
and we took in everything

and through it all, every shock my system would take
i was held down in place

verse 2
we were in a van heading for the coast
to play a show for 3 of our friends from home
and the world felt so safe

but now theres no one here to ground me from my fears
and the bad thoughts they just won’t disappear
so im absorbing everything

and through it all
every shock my system will take
i think it’s showing in my face
Chorus
we’ve had our fun
it doesn’t mean we don’t love everyone
I swear that it hurts
to tell you im going away

and we’re moving on
but it doesn’t mean we won’t miss everyone
i swear that it hurts
but i’ll make sure you’ll be ok

middle part
what can we say
what can we do
when theres laughter and love and friends up above
who don’t know your name

what can we say
if for an hour or two
well theres laughter and love and friends up above
that don’t know you’re freaking out

Ive Had All The Time In the World
too much, too much

Saturday

Lyrics
wake up dear, it’s half past 10
you’re slept in your dress again
we’ve waited, now it’s Saturday
wake up dear it’s Saturday

i tilt the room, on it’s side
you  capture me in the landslide
underneath the duvet
let’s make a home for us to play

this carpet came with the room
it’s kindling to warm our food
cheesy mac and lemonade
will help keep all of ours monsters at bay

OH HOW the day’s getting away
tomorrow we’ll have to leave

but for now it’s Saturday
off to Afterwords cafe
if it rains, we’re staying in
we’ll watch the same Netflix again
cos on Saturday there is no place we should go

(Part 2)
wake up in the passengers seat
that year we drove across country
everyday was Saturday
everyday something great

But now other days monopolize
Who knows where the future lies
An elephant is here to stay
he’s blocking us inside our own doorway

OH HOW the day’s getting away
tomorrow we’ll have to leave

but for now it’s Saturday
off to Afterwords cafe
a poet i will never be
but i swear we’re living poetry
and on Saturday there is no place we should go
so let’s just stay home

(Part 3)
inevitably geography
has involved itself between you and me
your there onto the next to day
I’m still here, it’s Saturday

i look at clouds that second way
I’m struggling to sleep in late
like Bill and Phil on groundhogs day
Saturday’s just will not go away

life is a bunch of Saturdays
tomorrow we’ll have to leave

well for now today it’s Saturday
and i will heal your nervous pains
peak inside the first aid kit
where i left you some hot chocolate

sure there are people we could see
sure there are places we could be
but on Saturday’s there’s no where we should go
so let’s just stay home
